The US government is so full of self-righteousness that it has become a caricature of hypocrisy. Leon Panetta, a former congressman who Obama appointed CIA director and now head of the Pentagon, just told the sailors on the USS Enterprise, an aircraft carrier, that the US is maintaining a fleet of 11 aircraft carriers in order to project sea power against Iran and to convince Iran that “it’s better for them to try to deal with us through diplomacy.” (Source)

If it requires 11 aircraft carriers to deal with Iran, how many will Panetta need to project power against Russia and China? But to get on with the main point, Iran has been trying “to deal with us through diplomacy.” The response from Washington has been belligerent threats of military attack, unfounded and irresponsible accusations that Iran is making a nuclear weapon, sanctions and an oil embargo.

Washington’s accusations echo Israel’s and are contradicted by Washington’s own intelligence agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Why doesn’t Washington respond to Iran in a civilized manner with diplomacy? Really, which of the two countries is the greatest threat to peace?

Scientists seeking new ways to treat depression are seeing magic in psychedelic mushrooms.

Psilocybin, the active ingredient in the druggy fungus, seems to affect the medial prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that is hyperactive in people who suffer from depression, reports Reuters.

Mushrooms seem to work similarly to anti-depressant drugs like Prozac but with additional, mind-opening benefits.

January 24, 2012 – FIJI – A very deep 6.3 magnitude earthquake erupted along the seafloor off the island of Fiji. The earthquake had a depth of 582.8 km (362.2 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake was 759 km (472 miles) from SUVA, Fiji and about 1374 km from Auckland, New Zealand. The Fiji earthquake was the fourth consecutive earthquake to strike the planet in four days. Earlier today, a 6.2 struck off the coast of Chile, preceded by a 6.0 in the South Sandwich Islands the day prior, and a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in Chiapas, Mexico prior to that. The string of quakes comes both before and during a phase where solar activity and CME’s are colliding with the planet’s magnetosphere.

On camera, a Romney “supporter” at an early voting location says he was paid by the South Florida Romney campaign effort to wear a shirt and maintain a presence. Having a handful of Romney supporters at the site likely helped make the impression on potential voters who lack the capacity to think for themselves that they, because of Romney’s large “support”, they should vote for him. Makes perfect sense…

(NaturalNews) Formaldehyde is one of the most toxic chemicals that can invade the human body. It is a known carcinogen and tissue irritant. Yet the chemical is still allowed in “safe” concentrations in certain products we touch, put on our skin or hair, and inhale every day.

Formaldehyde is used for a variety of industrial purposes, but most of us know it as the funky smelling liquid that preserved the dissection subjects in biology class. Long term preservation is just one of its functions. It serves as a disinfectant, embalming agent, chemical preservative, and solvent.

Formaldehyde in the air we breathe
Breathing formaldehyde is likely our biggest risk of exposure to this toxic chemical. That new car smell that everyone seems to love is largely due to the formaldehyde content in the materials that comprise the interior of the vehicle.

(NaturalNews) There is a growing body of scientific evidence which proves that genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) are inherently different from natural organisms, including the way the body processes them, as well as how the immune system responds to them. But Monsanto, the largest purveyor of GMOs in the world, believes that GMOs are no different than natural organisms, and that GMO testing is both needless and valueless.

In the Why aren’t you running human clinical trials on GM crops? section of Monsanto’s Food Safety page, the biotechnology giant explains its opinion that GMOs are “substantially equivalent” to natural organisms. According to Monsanto, since concentrations of proteins, carbohydrates, and other nutrient factors vary among natural crops, as well as among natural and GM crops, then these differences are automatically unimportant in light of GMO safety.

Furthermore, Monsanto claims that its injection of foreign DNA into its GM crops is also automatically safe because, get this, DNA is present in natural crops as well. Never mind that the injected DNA is foreign and unnatural, and is used to alter the entire genetic structure of GM crops — according to Monsanto, its unnatural DNA is automatically non-toxic because every other plant also has DNA. Case closed.

It appears that yet another assassination of an Iranian involved with the military has occurred with all the similarities of previous attacks.

Like the previous assassinations, the attackers were motorcyclists, according to officials in Khorramabad cited by Israel’s Ynet News.

The motorcyclists reportedly fired shots at a group of soldiers who were headed to an air force base and in the process killed a 43-year-old Iranian military officer.

There were reportedly two motorcyclists involved in the assassination which injured another soldier in the city of Khorramabad, according to local media.
